Get Hitched: All Things Mounting Brackets

What is a mounting bracket exactly?

Also known as cradles, fixing caps, hammer tops or attachment plates, mounting brackets are used to comfortably pair your hydraulic attachment and excavator or boom. In other words, it’s a bottom plate with two ears welded on. The boom of the digger, either directly or fitted with a quick hitch, connects between the two ears. The mounting bracket is bolted onto our products, which means one attachment could be bought with two mounting brackets enabling it to be used with two different machines. A customers can then swap them around depending on which machine they need to use the attachment with.

What hitch is right for you?

When picking a mounting bracket, you have two choices: standard and quick hitch. The standard mounting bracket is sized to fit major excavator brands, like CAT-style OEM retention systems. These standard brackets do not require any drawings or dimensions from customers, as they are paired with the correlating systems. In contrast, quick hitch mounting brackets are custom fit to your equipment. Therefore, in order to be sure that the mounting bracket we provide will fit the quick hitch of our customer we need to know the details of the quick hitch being used.

These are the three (3) measurements required:

  1. the diameter of the pins

  2. the distance between the center of the pins

  3. the width to put between the ears of the bracket

What about pins?

The other important factor when we talk about mounting brackets for quick hitches is that they can be supplied with pins. They can be welded on like a digging bucket where the pins are not removable. Or we can supply the mounting bracket fitted with bosses and with removable pins.

When mounting brackets are needed?

Top mount brackets are made for hammers, compactors, shears, compaction wheels or any other attachment that requires an interface to connect to your machine.
